Joe Buzzett

Mr. Buzzett is the Chief Technology Officer for GD-OTS responsible for development and strategy for next generation products and capabilities.  He is leading the GD-OTS Digital Engineering Working Group to implement best practices across engineering locations to meet the DoD’s requirements for Digital Engineering.  His strategy focus is to support GD-OTS business units for the development of advanced artillery, energetics, direct fire munitions, weapons, and missile subsystems.   

 Joe has over 35 years of experience in the defense industry. He joined General Defense Corporation (later Olin Ordnance, Primex and GD-OTS) in 1988 working as a Mechanical Engineer in the newly formed Research and Development department.    During his career he has developed advanced propulsion systems and projectiles for kinetic energy and multi-purpose tank ammunition and artillery systems. He was a key technical member of the XM982 Excalibur proposal and early development team.   He received a patent for an advanced kinetic energy projectile concept and was a primary author on a major Army Research Laboratory Technical report on Advanced Electrothermal Chemical (ETC) propellants.  

Joe graduated from Tulane University where he earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later completed a Masters of Business Administration at the University of South Florida and the General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems Leadership Decathlon Program.  In 2017 he received the Firepower Technology Award by the NDIA Picatinny Chapter in recognition of his work supporting  munitions development for the warfighter.  

He serves on the Executive Committee of the National Armaments Consortium (NAC) as well as the Industrial Advisory Board of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He also is a member of the General Dynamics corporate Engineering and Technology Council. He resides in Tampa with his wife, Jennifer, and has three daughters.
